The club

A bit of history

Founded in 1958, the Real Club de Golf de Castiello is the oldest golf club in Asturias and one of the most iconic in Spain.

On October 19, 1998, it was granted the distinction of adding the title "Real" to its original name, becoming the Real Club de Golf de Castiello, and was authorized to use the crown in its official crest. Today, it has more than 900 members.

The Real Club de Golf de Castiello was inaugurated on July 17, 1958, driven by Félix Cifuentes along with 200 other Asturian sports enthusiasts. Its first president was Javier Loring Guilhou.

In its early days, the club leased an area of approximately 160,000 m² with a 9-hole course. The year 1981 marked another milestone in the Club’s development with an expansion to the standard 18 holes. Later, new plots of land were added, several holes were modified and improved, and in 2004, the members acquired ownership of the current Club.

Located 5 km from Gijón, the club sits on a hilltop in the parish of Castiello de Bernueces, offering magnificent views of a varied landscape of trees and meadows. The name "Castiello" comes from the Latin term Castrum and its diminutive Castellum, which is the origin of this toponym and refers back to the Roman colonization period of Gijón.
